a juvenile was arrested. >> still no suspect in the death of a popular d.c. principal. this morning your learning new details about brian betts' final moments. kathy park is live in northwest. good morning. >> classes resumed on monday at shaw middle school. parts were heavy as they began their first week without their beloved principle. police say they are looking into several leads into the murder. investigators are scouring two crime scenes that may provide more clues into finding suspects. one place is his silver spring home where his body was discovered. if the other is a southeast d.c. neighborhood where police found his suv. there's still no suspect. authorities believe he let a murderer into his house because there was no sign of forced entry. >> they think this is someone that he knew.

>> police have released a timeline and are using it to help with the ongoing investigation. last wednesday officials say that he was still alive at 11:30 p.m. the following evening at 7:40 his co-worker found the body. on saturday a witness saw his nissan xterra park in a southeast d.c. neighborhood. police believe the vehicle was left there between noon and 3:00 p.m. on friday. a witness told detectives that he saw two men coming out of that nissan xterra. they're looking at it for more clues. they don't believe this was a random crime. kathy park reporting from northwest. >> of viewing for brian betts will be tomorrow from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m. on center street in manassas at pearcy funeral home. >> one person was killed and several persons hurt a fiery crash in southeast d.c. just

before 7:00 last night in the 3600 block of alabama ave. neighbors say white van was speeding when it struck a car head-on. the car driver was taken to a hospital where she died. police say four children in the car and two men in the van were taken to a hospital, many with serious injuries. >> this was something that when you go to bed at night you are thankful you were able to be there if it was no more than a neighbor providing a blanket or assistance. >> it could have been a lot worse. there was plenty of traffic in the area at a time. we have news of an important recall. toyota is recalling the 2010 lexus gx 460 suv to address problems with the stability control system. this affects 9400 vehicles since the mall opened on sale in december. it halted sales of the vehicle

attend the sunday service. it was the nation's worst coal mine disaster in 40 years. these officials say the death toll from last week's earthquake in the western part of that country is more than 2000. nearly 200 people still missing. yesterday two people were pulled from the rubble. rescue efforts could be hampered by snowfall that sort test. wednesday has declared a national day of mourning. but wall street continues their parade of shame on capitol hill. lawmakers will take lehman brothers to task today. t.j. winnick as the latest on the obama administration's push to clean up the financial industry. >> if president obama will go to wall street this week. >> we don't mark the second anniversary of the financial collapse by having in place the same rules that led to that collapse. >> both parties agree on this. no bailout. in my view, that's a good start. >> progress comes off as a

gm could be out of debt even earlier than many people expected. vinita nair has those stories and more. >> good morning. we begin your "money scope report." with a new report on massive government bailout. the special inspector monitoring tarp said is succeeded in helping the big banks. in an airport the government watchdog says it has not made a dent in the mortgage crisis. the report says it needs to do much more to help troubled homeowners avoid foreclosure. general motors is expected to make good on a promise to fully repaid $6.7 billion funded by u.s. taxpayers. they're expected to make the details public tomorrow during a visit to a plant in kansas city. gm has already made two payments and has promised to have the entire government on paid off before the end of june. toyota is recalling the lexus gx 460 to fix the stability control problem. "consumer reports" had warned

consumers not to purchase it after tests showed it skidded during sharp turns. toyota is offering to update the stability control software. new reports say last year cyber attack on googled with the private information of millions at risk. introduced from china gave users access to multiple global services with a single log in. gmail passwords were not involved. but this may have helped hackers find other vulnerabilities at google. if the government wants to put the legal limits on how much sodium people eat. the fda wants to reduce sodium gradually over a period of years. high levels of salt increase the risk of heart disease and stroke. the plan calls for the fda to analyze thousands of products and looked at how to reduce the salt. coming up on "good morning america", new reports this morning as goldman sachs goes all out to defend itself against charges is misled customers to help others make big profits.

way to england. that is not the news thousands of stranded passengers and crew of airlines wanted. brianne carter if is live from our satellite center with the latest. >> that's right. some previously closed airports are beginning to reopen. we have seen some flights moving. the question is how long will they continue to move? british flights have seen restrictions. they largely remain closed in the british airways. the night smoke plume appears to be intensifying. so the good news might not last long. good news for grounded passengers. >> i am so happy if to be getting out. >> parts of europe are starting to open slowly. but european officials say it will take several days for regular traffic to resume. furey is divided into three zones. the no-fly zone over the ash cloud. there's a caution zone.

park in a southeast d.c. neighborhood and saw two people exited the vehicle. police believe the car was parked between noon and 3:00 p.m. on friday. if the news of his murder has been devastating for teachers and students at shaw middle school as they began their first week without their principal. if you look behind me, you can see a memorial continues to grow. flouris and notes are left on the steps of the middle school. -- flowers. the school system is urging anyone who knew him to share their thoughts as well. >> a bill to give d.c. a full vote in the house is getting stiff opposition from the people it is a force to help. some groups in the district say they cannot support the bill because it would strip the city's ability to set its own gun laws. some d.c. council members are urging congress not to approve the measure. supporters are ready to accept the amendment if it means voting

rights. today a d.c. council committee will discuss a bill that would legalize the medical use of marijuana. two committees have already approved a bill. if the full council will vote on the measure sometime next month. if >> we are learning more about how americans feel about legalizing marijuana. an associated press poll finds only 33% favor legalizing drugs. 60% believe it should be allowed for medical use. people under 30 are the most likely to favor the legalization of marijuana. the education department is appealing the bush administration policy that critics say it weakens federal laws providing equal opportunities for female athletes. schools and colleges must provide strong evidence that they offer equal opportunities through athletic participation. it's under the federal title 9 gender equality law. >> demand for health care jobs as long been stronger than the demand for jobs as a whole.
